Left

Writer: Shelly BlaisdellShelly Blaisdell

You just left

Left the door open for a cat to enter

Left a light on leading me to water

You just left

Left your jacket on the chair

Left my sheets muddled like mint and lime

Left a scent of farmers market on my pillow

Left me sighing

Left me wondering when you’ll come back

Left me wondering what I did to deserve this

You just left

Left your palm print on the mirror

Left a purple mark blooming on my skin

Left your god singing to my ancestors in the kitchen

You just left

Left me a little unhinged

Left me with a story

Left a tropical storm

still churning the ocean

You just left

Left me shaking

Left me gulping midnight

Left me clutching gratitude

You left me warm and wasted on crumpled white cotton.

Wondering what I did to deserve this.
